More on the Necrons!

So on a roll from the completion of the Necron Monolith, I decided to run on with the remaining 4 character models.  Below are some more arsty fartsy pics, that's me attempting better photography by the way.  Firstly we have a typical Necron Lord and then the converted Reaper/Cryptek trick.  Although I cannot lay claim to the idea, I did find it on my own (Rick Powa!!!).

The enforced palette seems to tie them in good and keep the feel of the army together, though it was nice to have some cloth to play with and I couldn't help but add some white as an extra highlight to the power!

If anyone is wondering, the whole army has an "enforced" pallete rule:

Skin bits/Main tone - Skeleton Bone (Army Builder)
Cloth/Spot colour/Icons - Khorne Red (GW)
Weapons and killy bits - Mechanicus Grey (GW)
Glowy bits/eyes - Warpstone Glow (GW)
Highlight and wash as you please.

Alas poor Yorick...

Izzz myyy goodd sideee, yessss?

Next up is the confused and abused Tomb King Ushabti which started as a Ctan but will be converted into the Necron Destroyer Lord, because they are awesome.  And finally that horrible all resin Necron Overlord with his broken staff.. grumble grumble...

For variety I've also got on the go two figures from my Imperial Guard!  An eccentric looking Primaris Psyker and an Artillery Officer.

Going on Holiday next week, but more as it comes!

Necrons Rising (Pic heavy!)

Huzzaa!  The Monolith is done.  It could be argued that the thing could have been touched up further, a great idea of weathering from Rory for example.  However I stand that I have done enough to validate enjoying working on another project.  Besides, I can always come back.

So, having finished the center piece I finally felt bold enough to drag everything out of the carry case (Need something better, mental note!) and take a few pics.  Something about the black table cloth just clicked, you know?  A few repairs were required, but I am kinda happy with the on going army.

The betrayed, stripped of flesh and soul and left perfect for eternity.

Osiris Patriarchs, heads courtesy of Puppets war.

Immortals reinforced by Wraiths.  Note the middle one has an alternative head...

Scarabs flanking a baseless Spyder.  Need to do up a base.

Deathmarks with an experimental "They came from the Fog" base.

Apparently, my girl friend believes the fog to be too thick, what do you think?

My personal favorite unit, Triarch Stalker with another alternative Scorpion head.

The army center piece, the converted Monolith.

Annihilation Barge, most useful unit!  Sadly.  Need more maybe.

Death Bagel!  Doom Scythe/Night Scythe, plus another Osiris Helm.

These Usual suspects are next on the list.

But what is this?
Its a bit nostalgic seeing that this army was started by birthday presents on my 30th Birthday.  Its always the aim to awesome in collecting an army, in building it up over a period of time.  Strangely I feel ready to start to learn how to play with it ;.  Though  I am already planning on what to get next, but only after the four guys above and the rest is finally finished.

Possible extras?
  • More Nightscythes!
  • Loads of converted Destroyers from Tomb Kings parts.

    What do you guys think?

Imperial Guard Update 2013.

I've always been surprised at how I have these pics but never think to put them up.  It's like that part in the process is missing.

1.  Steal underpants.
2.  SEALED BY ORDER OF THE INQUISITION
3. Profit.

Seriously though, I'm gonna plonk some old and new stuff here from my Imperial Guard to update those who are actually bored enough to card.

Hang on to your hats, wigs and other hangables.

Inspired by the Mk 4 Churchill, using Old Crow figures I made this custom Macharius with Vulcan.

In a recent Apocolypse game, which while fun in its Epicness revealed some flaws of the new edition in Apoc games, vitually the entirety of the Azin 3rd was used.  It was really nice to get a feel of a grander army at play.  All small games in 40k do pretend after all to either be a special forces mission or something smaller in a greater battle.  Everytime I look at this pic I get reminded of my aim to have a whole company of Imperial Guard.  And why the hell not?

I've been asked about these puppies many times.  Initially conceived several years ago, the walking basalisks were inspired by Metal Gear Rex and talks with an engineering buddy of mine back in England.  After moving to Norway I eventually made the third to complete the battery.  Sadly 6th Edition true sight rules may well be the death of them, but damn they look good on the battlefield.

The third gun, made several years after the first two using second hand parts.

The Crew of these ancient machines are incidentally Adeptus Mechanicus.  Anyone else could get it wrong....

A recent battle displayed the promising new strengths in a Chimera strong army.

Not dead! Oh and MONOLITH!!!

Well of late my hobby progression has gone largely unnoticed due to two main factors: A/There hasn't been any.  B/I didn't Blog about it.  Infact I was suprised when someone asked me to Blog about something.  Why hadn't I already done it?

Anyway, enough about why I am a crap Blogger and more Pics!

The Monolith has long been a challenge for me as the kit when released was seen as a marvel of modelling standards.  It was also seen as a bloody horrible thing to put together.  However I believe I was lucky in getting a kit with minimul warping on all those long flat pieces.  Elastic bands helped too.

However I wanted to do something different. I always do :(.  In this case, wanting to keep with the theme of the Egyption Stargate Necrons, I went out and bought a Tomb Kings Casket of Souls.  Basically I am going to replace that god aweful crystal affair with something more like dark techno sorcery.  The casket will be sitting on the top there with a Cryptek behind it. Its a project alright, but simple enough.
Why Tomb Kings in spaaace?  Why the hell not?  Its an awesome idea, and to be frank I have no idea why people havn't just gone with this.  Though I do prefer the idea that the Necrons were some mysterious slave race to Dark and Old Cthulu like gods (Thanks Matt), my little deviation gave me a little idea on the armies background.  More on that later.

Zoom ZOOM!
This is finished pick of the death glider like Doom Scythe/Night Scythe.  The hard work paid off I feel, though as Rory likes to point out, the grey is a bit dull... He may be right.  Still the bone/red pattern works.  Still... I'm dreading having to do this on all those flat bits on the Monolith...

More on the Necrons as it comes.  Basically I've got the Monolith to a point now where its been primed, inked to DEATH!  S'cuse the pun, and next up is the layering.  Yawn.  I've still got 8th Army Desert Rats looking up at me longingly... Soon my pretties, Daddys got to finish stuff first.

Oh crap, I've still got those Necron Heroes to do too...  Necrons truly are Eternal...
